BIO

The painter Marek Číhal understands his work as a visual game between various media, with spatial and light-based objects connected to architecture. His realisations reflect the masterful skill of his linear drawing and his unique sense of colouristics.

Marek Číhal is an artist whose work can be understood as a visual game of free movement between the media of painting and drawing, with overlaps into installation and architecture. His paintings speak with simple visuality with abstract delays. They depict a range of motifs that at first glance appear like children's drawings. The content of the works mixes directness with otherness. Marek depicts favourite motifs of children, but in context with other motifs he creates a kind of equations that point to relationships in real life. This embedded content can be read in Mark's approach to communication, in which he reflects on society through traditional motifs told in a current visual language. His work is about his own boundaries and their transgression, about tolerance of plurality, about expression and legibility, about immediacy, about the possibilities of touch. Despite all the content, it is consciously playful.
